Bumble has partnered with the James Beard Foundation’s Women’s Leadership Programs to support women in hospitality (this stat likely won’t surprise you, but 6 out of 10 American women have worked in hospitality). And what better way to do so than a shared experience at a local women-led establishment?
Casa Vega (Los Ángeles, CA) - Owner Christy Vega - Christina “Christy” Vega, the spirited, talented, and dynamic owner of Casa Vega, was born in Burbank, CA, in 1977 to a long line of restaurateurs. Her grandparents, who immigrated to Southern California from Tijuana, Mexico, in the late 1930s, were the proprietors of Café Caliente, a famous nightclub and restaurant that thrived for 18 years on Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles. Christy’s father, Rafael Vega, followed in his family footsteps and opened Casa Vega in 1956 in Sherman Oaks, CA, at the young age of 22, establishing what became a well-known hangout for celebrities like Carey Grant and Marlon Brando. Honouring her father’s legacy as the restaurant celebrates its landmark 65th anniversary this year, Christy ensures that Casa Vega remains a Los Angeles landmark for generations to come. I honour the history and tradition of Casa Vega and am always trying to improve the experiences for our customers.” Christy is a James Beard Award Winner 2022 as she earned Casa Vega the America’s Classic award by saving and carrying on her family legacy. In 2022, Christy also selected for and graduated from the James Beard Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program.
